Every one has a traveling style, and some requirements for a place to stay when visiting a new place. Some like backpacking and going rough, while others like to have all the amenities of home at their disposal.

• Security – You would like to know how safe your accommodation – and destination in general – is. It’s well and good if the country is stable, but how about where your inn, hotel, or guest house is located? If you lead an active lifestyle, love partying, you’ll want to be able to move to and fro any time of day or night. You want to know that your valuables are safe when you lock the door, that your car, if you have one, won’t get burgled. Kampala is a generally safe place, but is just like any other city around the world. You wouldn’t leave your car unlocked or laptop or mobile phone unattended in Oslo, London, or New York, and the same applies to Kampala.
  
• Public transport – You wouldn’t want to find yourself stranded and unable to move from point A to B with ease. Some areas of Kampala, for example, are quite upscale and anyone would be desirous of living in these posher parts of Kampala but public transport there is non-existent. You have to own or hire car to move to and from there with ease. Kololo is one such area. Public transport in most areas of Kampala is otherwise easily accessible and cheap.
• Utilities – Power, water – you certainly want to have these 24/7. Internet supply can be easily arranged in most areas. One usually has to purchase a USB Internet modem from telecom companies such as Orange Uganda, MTN and others.
